DAY 600!

  • May 29
  • 4 min read

Today is day 600 of the Israeli reaction to the events of 7 Oct 2023.

Only 5 hours after the initial Air raid sirens were activated in southern and central Israel, at 06:30 AM, due to Hamas' rocket fire, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, at 11:35 AM, declared that Israel was at war.

Later that day the IDF initiated operations to relieve cities in southern Israel.

The next day Israel formally declared a state of war against Hamas.

A "complete siege" of the Gaza Strip was ordered, cutting off supplies like water, electricity, food, and fuel.

Following Days and Weeks:

● The Israeli military response involved a large-scale ground invasion of the Gaza Strip.

● Airstrikes intensified, and the conflict became the deadliest for Palestinians since the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.

● A temporary pause in fighting occurred in late November 2023, accompanied by a prisoner exchange.

In Summary:

Israel's reaction to the October 7th attacks began with immediate military actions, including declaring a state of war, mobilizing reserves, and launching airstrikes, and then escalated into a full-scale military operation in Gaza.

On 27 October 2023, twenty days after the initial start of these events, the UN General Assembly Meeting, during the continuation of the 10th Emergency Special Session, voted on Resolution ES-10/21, a document on "Protection of civilians and upholding legal and humanitarian obligations."

But still, until today, the world has not intervened in the ongoing events in the Middle East. But the world has and is reacting to it. More and more countries are speaking out against Israel's actions. And if not as countries, then it's individual leaders, citizens, groups, etc. that protest. And not just against the direct actions of the Israeli army, the IDF, but also against anything and anyone who might be complicit in these actions.

Protest against companies that are considered complicit in genocide in Gaza.

International reactions to the Gaza war by Israel

On 7 October 2023, a large escalation of the Gaza–Israel conflict began with a coordinated offensive by multiple Palestinian militant groups against Israel. A number of countries, including many of Israel's Western allies, such as the United States and a number of European countries, condemned the attacks by Hamas, expressed solidarity for Israel and stated that Israel has a right to defend itself from armed attacks, while countries of the Muslim world (including the Axis of Resistance) have expressed support for the Palestinians, blaming the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories as being the root cause for the escalation of violence. The events prompted several world leaders to announce their intention to visit Israel, including US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Numerous countries called for a ceasefire and de-escalation. International organizations, student organizations, charities, ecumenical Christian organizations, and Jewish and Islamic groups commented on the situation. On 27 October 2023, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution calling for an immediate and sustained humanitarian truce and cessation of hostilities, adopted by a vote of 121 states to 14, with 44 abstentions. As of 13 November 2024, Belize, Bolivia, Colombia, and Nicaragua have severed diplomatic relations with Israel, while Bahrain, Chad, Chile, Honduras, Jordan, South Africa and Turkey have recalled their ambassadors from Israel, citing Israeli actions during the war.

Criticism of the devastating war has extended well beyond Arab states to include key Western allies, Asian powers and Latin American nations.
